SENSATIONAL AFFAIR.
CONSTABLE FIRES O.V ASSAILANT. ' An unknown man was dangerously injured in a struggle with a police constable at Parkcs (N.S.Wi) one day last week. A man named Umpleby reported to the police at Parkea that aman was in a dying condition at a camp about nine miles from the town. Sergeant L°rd ! .who is in charge of Parkes, sent Constable Brown back with Umpleby to bring the man into the hospital. When the trooper reached the spot, which is I" t lo , nely and deserte< l part of the bush, there was no sign of anybody about the place. He .got off his horse, and was just going into the hut when a man rushed out and made ft violent at- *!?. ® a"heavy stick. Constable Brown closed with the man, and after struggling with him for some time s netted jjttthro wing, him- totheground* Before the policeman could secure his assailant,! however, the bah got up, and' making another attack ,on Constable Brown, struck him several times about, the head.
