LORD WOLSELEY'S ESTATE.

Captain Cox, a well-known ex-coastal mariner, has departed for England to lay claim to two fortunes, one of £1.400,000. left by his brother, Colonel Cox, and the other a portion of the estate of Lord Wolseley, of whom' he was a nephew. It is also stated that he will probably succeed to Lord Wolseley's title. Captain Cox, who is 04 years of age, was second mate on the steamer Leura. He subsequently commanded several vessels on his own behalf. Before taking to the sea he was a captain in the Imperial Army. He has- for some time been In charge of a sheep station at Bungamlore. The solicitors for his brother's estate got into touch with him some months ago. He was prepared to depart when a cable arrived announcing that he had inherited a second fortune. Considerable difl'ii culty was experienced in delivering the ! cable. Several Coxes were tried, and I it was eventually sent to the sheep ! tion and the lucky owner located. The extent of Lord Wolseley's estate is not stated. It is known that he was very wealthy. By special remainder his daughter succeeded to the title. Captain Cox's friends state it was contested on his behalf, and advices received point to the conclusion that he will succeed. When Cox's father died lie left him a fortune of £100,0ui). This he invested in shipping, hut lost it. Of late years the captain lias made a precarious living by storekeeping and other vocations.
