A sub-committee of the Royal Commission on Forestry, consisting of Messrs. llasyard (chairman), Cockayne, Murdoch iind Turner (secretary) arrived at Wairoa yesterday and went, on to Waikaremoana. They had rather a narrow escape from a serious accident on the journey to Waikaremo;ina. Whilst the car was rounding a sharp li"nd at an altitude of 1700 feet on the side of the Tiitacmaro Ranges, the side step collided with a boulder on the track, bringing ; the car to a standstill and breaking the i main spring of the carriage. Fortunate,lv the car canted to the side of .the j track, instead of going down into the ! mvine. After half an hour's delay in i fixing up the broken spring, the party ' reached Lake House at 4.30 p.m. The | Mil river was in no way to blame, as the I obstruction could not be seen in time.
