TARIFF REFORM.

ME. BONAR LAW'S POLICY. A MOTION DEFEATED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 3, 11.20 p.m. London, April 3.

In the House, of Commons, a tariff reform motion, embodying Mr. Bonar Law's Edinburgh policy, was rejected by 279 to 106.

Sir ,1. A. Simon said that if Imperial preference were adopted, without imposing fresh duties on foodstuffs, only £200,000 to £300,000 worth of imports from the Dominions would be affected. This was a small operation with which to cement the Empire.

Mr. Bouar Law stated that simultaneously with the adoption of a preferential tariff, rrnrt of the revenue would be used to relieve the burden of taxation on agriculture.
