Winter and Sons, with a fair attendance and a good demand for the cows, which were mostly Shorthorn, and were in good condition. Best young cows realised from £9 10s to £l3 10s, second grade £6 10s to £8 15s, backward and aged £4 10s to £0 ss. Some nice 2y s -year in-calf heifers sold, after keen competition, at £0 10s and £8 12s Od; 2-year Shorthorn bulls £4 5s to £5 2s Od, mixed weaners to yearlings £2 Is, empty 20-months heifers £3 lis, %-draught gelding £3O, gig mare £ls 10s, long-shafter gig £l7 15s. On Tuesday, 2nd inst., I had a good attendance at the Bird road, Stratford, for Mr. W. E. Aiseh's clearing sale. The cows were not in good condition, and there were a good many aged, but they realised very satisfactory prices, as follows:—Bast cows £8 5s to £lO 10s, sec-ond-grade £5 15s to £7 10s, aged and late £4 to £5 10s, in-calf heifers £5 10s, stack of hay £3O 10s. On the same day, in my Rahotu yards, 1 had a very good entry of cattle and a large and representative attendance of buyers. A nice line of 70 20-months steers were yarded by Mr. P. Willcox, and sold under the hammer after good competition at £3 14s. Other prices were: Mixed weaners 7s to £1 23 Gd, yearling heifers £2 7s to £3 Is, poor £1 6s Gd, yearling steers £1 9s to £2, mixed yearlings £1 9s 0d to £1 13s, empty heifers £3 Gs, 2-year bulls £1 10s to £2 10s, store cows £2 5s to £3 2s Gd, aged store cows £1 2s Od to £1 15s, dairy cows £4 12s Gd to £8 ss, choice in-calf heifers £9, good £4 15s to £5 17s 6d, small £3 15s to £4 ss. On the same day, after the Ra'hotu sale, I offered Mr. F. Chapman's Rahotu properties, which realised, for the I homestead and 25 acres, £3O 10s per acre, to Mr. Vincent Tyrrell. The other 'farm of 49 acres was bought by Mr. P. Willcox at £l9 per acre. Dairy cows on account of the same vendor sold at from £9 to £ll 10s for best, others £6 15s to £7 10s, yearling heifers £2 2s Gd. On Wednesday, 3rd, in conjun«tion with Messrs Gillies and Nalder, of Hawera, I auctioned Mr. F. J. Johnston's pedigree and grade Holstein cows at the Waihi farm. There was a very large attendance, including buyers from Wairarapa and Palmerston North. The cattle were not looking their; best, being in poor condition, but elicited very keen competition. Pedigree cows realised from 24 to 439gn5., pedigree yearling heifers 16y, to 30gns., pedigree heifer calves 17 to lSgns., pedigree bulls 45 to 50gns., pedigree bull calves 11 to 37 gns., grade Holstein cows £l3 to £24 3s, averaging over £ls 10s for the line; grade yearling bulls £4 10s to £ll 10s, grade yearling heifers £G to £l2 12s. On Thursday, the 4th inst., I held a very successful sale on account of Mr. E. Kelliher, on the Toko road. The cows included some nice grade Jerseys and sold well, averaging for the line, including several aged and empty, over £9 ss. Prices realised were: For best quality young cows £lO 10s to £lO 10s, good aged cows £7 10s to £9 10s, second grade £3 10s to £G ss, 2-year bull £3 17s Gd, very choice 2-year in-calf Jersey heifers £9 5s to £ll, small line of well done Jersey yearling heifers £4 6s, Shorthorn yearlings £2 12s, dog cart £25, half-draught mare £lB, dray £lO, 2-year colt £l3 10s, dog cart harness £7. At Waiwakaiho yards on Friday, 6th, there was a good entry of all classeSj with fair competition throughout. Good store cow-s were best in demand. A herd of dairy cows from Messrs Hill and Ritchie, of the Upper .Carrington road, were yarded. These were mostly late calvers and some were carrying a lot of age. Prices realised were from £6 5s to £S 5s for best and £4 12s> 6d to £5 12s Od for others. Very aged cows made £2 2s Gd to £3 12s (id. yards on Tuesday, 9th inst., I had a fair entry in my store cattle yards, with a good and representative attendance. Bidding throughout was good for most lines, very few cattle going home. I had a very heavy yarding of dairy cows and heifers in the Stratford dairy yards, and notwithstanding the wretched weather, a very good attendance of buyers. Bidding was very good for best quality cattle, but a good number of second grade and late cows were offered. On account of Mr. C. Keightley, best cows made £!) os to £l4 ss, others £7 to £9, aged £5 10s. On account of Mr. A. E. Stockier, from £6 15s to £9 ss, others £5 10s to £6, poor and aged £3 5s to £3 17s Od. On account'of Mr. T. Bullock, £0 10s to £9 os, others £4 15s to £5 15s, aged and empty £3 2s 6d to £4 ss. On account of Mr. C. S. Matthews, Bennett, and Co. report that on Wednesday last they held their usual weekly sale, when they had a fair yarding and nearly everything was disposed of at satisfactory prices, as follows:—Dairy cows (inferior), £3 15a to £5 10s; good in-calf two-year heifers, j £5 10s to £5 16s; store cows, £3 to £3 9s; old do., 15s to £2 ss; weaners, 25s to £2; f,m. ewes, 9s 8d to lis' 4d.
