WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

.HEALTH PROTECTION SOCIETY. The committee of the above society held its last meeting at the house of the president instead of in the Town Hall. After the Plunket Nurse had given her monthly report and some other business had been transacted, the members took the opportunity of saying good-bye to the nurse and wishing her all success in the future, and expressed regret that circumstances necessitated her leaving New Plymouth. Some time ago the local committee came to the decision that it would not be able to keep the Plunket Nurse, as funds were low and so little work was coming to her. Since that time a circular letter has been received from Dr. Truby Kin?;, in-which he says that he and Mrs. King will be in Taranaki in about two months' time. The following paragraph from the letter will give some idea of the new scheme under which the branches will be organised; "The Honorable the Minister of Public Health has ! expressed a desire that the work which the society has been carrying out in the eight main centres of' the Dominion should be extended along similar lines throughout the whole country. In order to effect this I (Dr. Trubv King) am to be associated with the Public Health Department for the next few months and to deliver '<i series of lectures, etc., mainly in country districts. Dr. Valin- ■ tine, the Chief Health Officer, under whom the scheme will be carried out, has kindly arranged for the co-operation and assistance of the officers of his department." Until such time as the local branch is reorganised under the new scheme there will be no Plunket Nurse in New Plymouth. The annual meetin<r of the New Plymouth Society will bo held in the Town Hall on August 5. when it is earnestly requested that all subscribers will attend.
