INGLEWOOD NEWS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ] On Thursday .evening the Inglewood j Amateur Dramatic Club gave a perform-1 anee in aid of the band rotunda and tbe J Fire Brigade. This took the form of a' two-act comic drama entitled "All that glitters is not gold." The weather all day was anything but promising for a full house, and as night approached it got worse. In spite of this, however, the curtain rose to quite a good house. Had it been a fine evening there is no doubt that the hall would have been packed out. The people from the country could not be blamed for not facing the wind and rain The cast of characters was as follows: —Jasper Plum, n rich "self-made" cotton spinner, Mr. Frewin; Stephen Plum, son of old Jasper, Mr. P. Dewhirst; 'Frederick Plum, another son, Mr. X. Sutherland; Toby Twinkle, a'factory hand, Mr. H. C. Williams; Harris, a footman, Mr, L. HoiLand; Lady Valaria Westendleigh, Mrs. N. Thompson; Lady Loatherbridge, Mrs. Jaieoirtbe; and the leading part of Martha Gibbs being taken by Miss iPapps. It would be impossible to do justice to all the, performers in the space at my command, and indeed I think that the best criticism that could be passed was one which I overheard a visitor give on leaving the hall. He said to a friend: "I've always heard- that they can put on a good amateur thing here, and so they can." The Inglewood A.D.C. has a good reputation, and they maintained it on Thursday night. On Thursday afternoon Major Sandford examined the Boy Scouts, and some thirteen of them passed for their secondclass badges. There is some rumor of a competition with the Xew Plymouth Scouts. This ought to be a good thing for both troops.
