THE HOBART STRIKE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Hobart, August 1. The carters and drivers' strike is extending, and practically all branches of trade are affected. Merchants are compelled to drive their own carts. The waterside workers refused to handle fruit, though carted- to the wharf by the orchardists themselves. SUGAR WORKERS' STRIKE. Brisbane, August 1. The Adelaide Shipping Company's office staff at Cairns placed a cargo of sugar aboard the steamer Mintaro, but | the crew did not help. A large crowd of strikers quietly watched the process. A number of mills continue crushing. STRIKE AT MANCHESTER. Received 1, 9.30 p.m. London, August 1. Three thousand five hundred engineers' laborers struck at Manchester for a minimum wage of £1 weekly. The strike affects 9000 workmen.
