CORRESPONDENCE
MUNICIPAL ELECTION. To the Editor. Sir,—ln your report of the result ol the polling at Wednesday's municipal election you say that "Mr. J. T. Mannix, a sitting member, who opposed the Progressive Association's ticket, received i 184 votes and secured the third seat." , In reference to the above, I cannot un- ; derstand why a paragraph so mislead- . ing should have appeared in your paper. '. I wish to say that four months before ,' the Progressive Association was formed. 11 clearly stated in the press (in the '. form of an election notice) that I was !! in favor of progress, including an elec- , trie tram service for New Plymouth, , and my election notice of last week conr' tained a similar statement. I would .' like to add that I have been the first ', candidate in connection with a New Ply- , '■ mouth borough election to make a public : pronouncement in favor of "Trams and [ Progress." In justice to me, I shall be , obliged if you will insert the above.— I I am, etc., J. T. MANNIX.
[Mr. Mannix, though not opposed to the policy of the Progressive Association, was certainly opposed to its "ticket," because he was not of it. Why he was not on that ticket was not explained, and the public soon gave their decision as to his worthiness.—Ed.]
