It is thought that Br. Bell will pay New Plymouth a visit during the week. Dr. Steven, the new medical superintendent at the Stratford Hospital, assumed duty yesterday morning. Mr. Parquharson, the third New Zealand Rhodes scholar, has been appointed penologist by the Westralian Government. Mr. O. Lanchlan, A.M.1.K.K., superintendent of the Wellington City electric lighting department, is on a visit to New Plymouth. At Te Henui Church yesterday morning Mr. George Stokes was married to Miss Hilda Humphries, daughter of Mr. W. L. Humphries. Messrs. G. V. Tate and A. J. Hoskin, who will judge draught horse* and Shorthorn cattle at the Waikato show, went north last night. Mr. J. D. and Mrs. Henry have returned to New Plymouth "from their tour of the other oil-producing districts in the Dominion. " Miss Jemison, who has left the Tariki School to go to the York School, was presented with a silver and enamelled mounted manicure set bv the scholan of the Tariki School. Drs. Wylie and Carbery, and Messrs. Tonks, C. O. Hawke and Mr. and Mrs, George Stokes were passengers for Auckland last night by the Harawa. Mr. R. F. Cornwall, of New Plymouth, who will" judge the Jersey cattle, at the Waikato A. and P. show this week, left for north by the Harawa last night. It was intended that the Prime Minister and the Hon. Dr. Findlay should leave Wellington on Friday for Auckland, but, owing to the extreme preasure of work, their departure has been postponed until Saturday's Main Trunk express, says a Wellington telegram. The Dunedin Star understands that the Hon. Mr. Carroll is to he ActtoffPremier while Sir Joseph Ward ig absent from the Dominion, that the Hon. Mr. Millnr will be Acting-Minister of Finance, the Hon. Mr. Buddo have charge of the Lands Department, and the Hon. Mr. Fowld* take Justice in addition to his other duties. Dr. D. W. Maelagan and Mr. A. J. Adlam, both of whom made their final departure from Kaponga on Saturday, were tendered a farewell socjal by the members of the Loyal Kaponga Lodge of Oddfellows on Tuesday evening. Dr. A. H. Tovey, who succeeds Dr. Maelagan as lodge surgeon, was tendered a welcome by the good muster of brethren' present.—Star. A special meeting of the Quarterly Board of Whitcley Church was held at the conclusion of the evening service on Sunday, and as the outcome the following wire has been forwarded to the president of the,conference which is now sitting in Christchurch: "New Plymouth circuit strongly protests against Mr. Chapman's removal. Urges you as president and representative to do your ut--most to secure his remaining here. Congregational protest will follow if not reinstated in second reading." Prior to the mail coach leaving Whangamomona on Saturday morning, ft large number of citizens assembled at Messrs. McCluggage Bros.* store for the purpose of making a presentation to Mr. H. Durr, who has been in the district for the past four years acting in the capacity of road inspector, and who has received notice of transfer to Omona district. Mr. J. McCluggage, on behalf of the residents, in a few well-chosen words, presented Mr. Durr with a gold; albert, the recipient suitably responding. Three cheers were given for Mr. Durr as the coach departed.
