A Harbor League lias been formed to urge the construction of the inner harbor, and Mr. Leslie Reynolds Ims been engaged by the League to report on the question. THE MASTERTON TRAGEDY. i Masterton, Saturday. The girl Beryl Gardner, a victim of the recent tragedy, still lies in an unconscious condition at the hospital, and little hope is entertained of saving hen life. I BUSH FIRES AT RAGLAN. Te Kuiti, Saturday. Great bush fires have been raging near Raglan since Tuesday, the biggest seen during recent years. THAMES POLICE DISTRICT. Thames, Saturday, Strong feeling still exists throughout the district regarding the retention 01 the Thames Police District, which was formerly conducted by Inspector Kiely and now efficiently administered by SubInspector Wright. .There is a decided objection to a portion of the district being lilched by Auckland, or to the Thames Police District, which covers a large area, being made subordinate to Auckland. An influential petition from Justices of the Peace and professional and business men has been forwarded to Dr. Findlay. GISBORNE LAND BALLOT. Gisbome, Saturday. The following are additional successes at the land ballot:—Section 4, block 0, D. G. McMillan, Whangarci; section 1, block 8, Mrs. X. G. Green, Waipawa; section 2, block 3 (Hangaroa), Lucy R. Baker, Whangarei.
A WAXGANUI MISHAP. WiUigiinui, .Saturday. A cable received from Sydney states that the injuries to the barquentine Alexa, which bumped into the breakwater some time ago when crossing the Wanganui bar, cost over £IOOO, in addition to the repairs effected at Wanganui, which cost £7OO.
