The Xew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, held their first sale at Puniwhakau with the kind permission of Messrs. Ma lone and Worthingtoii in their yards on Friday last, when there were about 3500 sheep yarded. Considering the weather conditions prevailing, the sale was a great success, everything being sold but two pens of mostly old ewes. There was a large attendance of farmers, who appeared to appreciate the company's enterprise in going into the locality. Mr. Kerr Maxwell supplied a very nice lunch, which was much appreciated. The following prices were realised: Two-tooth ewes, lis to 15s Id; two-tooth wethers, !)s to 12s fld; full-mouth ewes, 3s Od to 10s. There was fairly keen competition for Romney and Lincoln rams, which realised from 1 to 4 guineas. They also held their first slieep fair in their yards at Stratford last Wednesday, when they yarded about 5000 sheep. There was a very large attendance of farmers, and competition was fairly keen, more particularly for young ewes, all of which changed hands at somewhat better prices than those ruling of late. The following prices were realised: Two-tooth ewes, lis to 15s 2d; two-tooth wethers, 0s to 12s fid; a'*ed ewes, 3s Od to 9s Gd; lambs, (is Id"to 7s Gd; and rams, 1 to 3%gns. The only lines remaining were a few old ewes and a pen of lambs, while a line ot Southdown rams were passed in at 4gns.
Owing to Young, Hobbs and Co. holding their sheep fair on Tuesday next, the X.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., hiive decided to, hold their cattle sale on Monday, 27th, inst., instead of on the. usual day, Tuesday. .
