THE FRUIT-GROWING INDUSTRY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dargaville, Lust Night, Nine eases more of typhoid have developed at the Maori settlements at Repia and Naumai since Saturday, live at the former and four at the latter. Dr. Magill visited the camps to-day. The water at Repia is obtained from an artesian well, and the supply appears to be quite pure. It is thought that contagion is direct by kissing, rather than from insanitation or impure water. The Hon. R. McKenzie, Minister of Public Works, is shortly to visit the Northern Wairoa, but he lias advised the Chamber of Commerce that he is not yet quite sure of the date. , Mr. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, is expected on -February 8. The Northern Wairoa climate is specially adapted for fruit, and large areas are to he 'planted out next season. One grower is getting the ground ready to plant out 35,000 strawberry plants.
