WEST INDIES MAIL CONTRACT.

The British Government lias contracted with the Royal Mail Steamer Packet Company for a fortnightly service to the West Indies. The amount of subsidy is £03,000, of which Trinidad contributes ,C20,0:K). The British subsidy is in addition to the existing mail contract of £25,000.

EFFECT OF A TORNADO,

New York, January 8.

A tornado struck Cheyenne, Wyoming, and unroofed many buildings. A railway employee was blown a hundred yards and carried on to the roof of a car. Many persons were injured.
