THE TURKESTAN EARTHQUAKE
TWO VILLAGES WIPED OUT. By Cable—(Press Association—Copyright. London, January 5. The Turkestan earthquake was recorded in England, Wales, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy and Russia. Many inhabitants of Tashkend escaped from the falling houses, but died of exposure and the intense cold. St. Petersburg, January 5. Owing to the earthquake a_.lake overflowed and destroyed Pigeval'sßy. The earthquake annihilated two large villages. RECORDED IN AUSTRALIA. Sydney, January fl. The College seismograph on Wednesday morning recorded an earthquake of a high degree of intensity, apparently about 5000 miles away. The waves continued to arrive, for several hours. Adelaide, January 0. The Observatory instruments clearly recorded the Turkestan earthquake. The waves lasted four and a half hours.
