Weindler, an eminent German scholar, has been arrested for a sensational theft of books and pictures of enormous historical, armorial and scientific value, from the Royal library and Albertihium, at Dresden. Weindler declares that he acted from an uncontrollable impulse to possess the articles. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES. London, November 2. Mr. Lloyd-George assured the Manchester Unity in reference to State assurance of invalids, that the Government would assist friendly societies to its utmost, and that they would receive the same benefits in the way of State contributions as other agencies.
