ROWDY FRENCH DEPUTIES
AL BRIAND SUBJECTED TO ABUSE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 31, 12.20 a.m. Paris, October 30. In a disorderly and passionate debate in the Chamber, M. Jaures asserted that M. Viviani was resigning because his colleagues were prisoners to the forces of money and reaction. M. Viviani denied the statement. Mr. Briand, amid constant interruptions, justified the mobilisation of the railwaymen, when they were only too glad to seize any pretext to escape the oppressive tyranny of their leaders. It was impossible for the country to keep her frontiers open. If necessary, the Government would have had recourse to illegal measures to suppress the strike. The members on the extreme left shook their fists, shouting, "Dictator!" and "Resign!" M. Briand remained, and for half an hour he was the target of Socialist abuse, which necessitated the adjournment of the debate.
