IMPERIAL-ATLANTIC CABLE

IS THERE A COMBINE? By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 31, 12.20 a.m. London, October 30. Statements that recent negotiations of the Atlantic • cable companies indicated the formation of a combine are denied in America. It is alleged that they were only seeking to make service improvements. The "pooling" story will be used as a peg to urge an Imperial Atlantic cable. Mr. Baxendale, in an interview, declared that he was unable to discuss the possibility of a cable trust. He did not see, in the present circumstances, how a new cable could be constructed, but with the removal of certain difficulties such a cable might be advantageous, in preventing artificially engineered cable tariffs.
