AN APPEAL UPHELD. j*y Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At a meeting of t«ia M."r.agMiient Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night, a letter was received from L. M. Tansey, protesting against his suspension by the Otago Union for striking an opponent. The grounds of tme protest are that the Otago Union had no jurisdiction to deal with tne appellant, he not having been reported, and, assuming that the Union hau jurisdiction, the sentence wjis excessive. It has been decided to uphold the appeal on the ground that the Union had no' jurisdiction, the player not having been reported. SATURDAY FOOTBALL. The following team will represent Civil Sen-ice on Saturday:—Kururangi, Chamberlain, Honeyfield, Copestake, Pfankuch, Loveridge, Kennedy, Boyd, Marcussen, Kent, Maxwell, Kil'gour, Simpson, Broadmore, Tuohey, Harvey, Cox, Brabant. NORTHERN UNION MATCH. On Saturday afternoon the Ea«t and West cluhs of the Tarannki Lea»-i* will fllnv their first mutch of the <m Western Park. Phy commences at 2.»5 p.m. sharp. Mr. H. Gilboy will referee. Tn view of the visit of the English team to New Plymouth, the players are straining every nerve to catch the selector's eye, and the public can rest assured that to-morrow's match will be a strenuous one.
