The Sportsman declares that "if the Zambesi is not a fit and proper river whereon to decide th« championship, we should, without doubt, inform our readers, :;nd wash our hands of ;he affair. We had, however, assured ourselves of its fitness beforehand; but in oider to obtain further light, we intcrv owed a prominent official of the South African Chartered Company, wnich shows that neither man his anythhg to fear, either as to the fitness of the course for sculling or the climate.
