. THE STAR FOOTBALL CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. There was a very satisfactory attend .ance last night at the annual meeting of the Star Football Club. Mr. E. Dock, rill, the president, was in the chair. The annual report and balance-sheet, as already published, were presented and adopted, The president congratulated the club, and the secretary in particular, on tlie very satisfactory financial position, and said that this position proved that there was a healthy interest taken by members in the club. As for the non-success of teams in the championship matches, the club had earned a name for sportsmanlike play. It was better to lose matches after honest tactics than to win matches by "pointing." He urged •players to train consistently and place the club in the same proud position as it had occupied in days* gone by. The election of officers resulted as 'follows:—President, Mr. E. Doekrill (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Dr. Leatham, Dr. Fookes, Messrs. H. Okey, M.P., G. Tisch, D. Penwarden, W. G. Malone, F. Richards, ,1. Arthur, A. Ladner, Tuthill, J. McKean, E. Whittle, and J Smith; club captain, Mr. L. Hill; senior delegate to Taranaki Rugby Union, Mr. Jas. Clarke; junior delegate, Mr. L. Hill; auditor, Mr. H. Stoclcer; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. A. Clarke (re-elected); management committee, Messrs. Arthur Pearce, A. 11. Pearce, H. Evans, Hopkins, C." Browu, W. Whittaker, Hawkins, the club captain, and officers ex officio; selectors, left to management committee. Nine new members were elected. The usual complimentary votes were passed to the ladies' committee, the Press, the retiring officers, the Referees' Association, Mr. F. Richards, and to all supporters. Mr. J. A. ■ STRATFORD FOOTBALL CLUB. By Tehgraph.—Own Correspondent. Stratford, Last Night. The annual meeting of the Stratford Football Cub was held"last night.' There ■was a good attendance 01 memoers. Mr. T. C. Fookes presided. The i'f port and balance-sheet showed that the club had had a successful season last year. The senior team and the thirds had won the respective championships in the Northern Division, but had been defeated in ihe play-off. The trophy for the player who had attended practices most 'regularly was won by r t\ James, whilst E. Bonner obtained the' trophy foi* the best all-round player in the senior, team. The club had a credit balance of £4l 7s Bd. The report and balance-sheet were adopted' as read. Twelve new members were feinted. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr. ,T| B. Hine, M.P.; president, MivT. C. Fookes; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. J. Malone, H. Richmond, R. H. Cameron, T. Lawless, M. J. King, and 11. Good; club captain, Mr. R. Masters; management committee, Messrs. C. D. Sole, R. Masters, A. O'Leary, H. Edgecumbe, H. Campbell, and C. Jackson; delegates to Taranaki Rugby Union, Messrs. D. J. Malone and R. Masters; senior selectors, Messrs. H. Campbell and R. Masters; junior selector, Mr. R. Harkness; secretary, Mr. Dug, Brown; treasurer, Mr. C. Potts. It was decided to open the season on 7th April. The question of insurance ot players was dis'/ussed at length, and ultimately reierred to the, management committee. It was resolved that all subscriptions must be paid before a player will be picked in nay match. Trophies were presented liv the following for competition during the coming season:—Mr. T. 0. Fookes, for most consistent attender at practices; Mr. H. Richmond, for best allround player in senior team; Mr. D. Edwards, six medals for best forward ami best back in each of the three teams; Mr. J. Mercer, trophy to be allotted by. the committee. Votes of thanks were accorded the retiring management committee, delegates, and secretary.,

TARANAKI REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annua] meeting oi the Taranald Referees' Association was held last night, when there Avere present: Messrs. G. Griffiths (chairman), F. Sptirdle, G. Hopkins, W. Woods, J. Way, W. Roch, 3. Johnson, and 0. West. An apology for absence was received from Mr. T.'Petty. The annual report stated, inter alia, that financially the past year had not been quite a successful one for the association, leaving them with a liability of £1 2s 6d. During the year five new members were admitted to active membership, including two from other associations, but it was still a matter for regret that more old players did not tak~e iivp veiereeing. There were at present twelve active members, but an increase was necessary, as tl'cy were often called upon to officiate in more than one match in one day. Ir> conclusion, the committee wished to accord the association's appreciation of the capable manner in \v,hich Mr. West had carried out his duties as secretary, and hoped that his services would be available again this year. The election of officers for the. ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr. F. T. Bellringer (re-elecbd); vicepresidents, the presidents of all affiliated clubs in the Northern Division, Dr. Fookes. Messrs. J. MeKean, G. Syme, W. E. Percival, and E. Whittle; auditor; Mr. A. R. Standish; executive commit-

tee, the senior referees; examination board, the senior referees. Mr. West having stated his inability to again take 'office as .-.eeretary, the matter- was left in the hands or the executive. Mr. G. Griffiths was elected vice-president to the New Zealand Referees' Association and delegate to the Taranaki Rugby Union, Mr. W. J, Perrett, of Eltham, forwarded his resignation as an active member, Mr. G. Hopkins also stated that he would be unable to take an active part during the coming season. I It was decided that these resignations from active membership be accepted with regret, and that the association place on record its appreciation of the services rendered by these members. Mr. Griffiths was elected chairman for the ensuing year. , Mr. F. Spurdle was appointed delegate to the conference of New Zealand referees to be held in Wellington on 25th and 26th March. It was decided that he be given a iree hand at the conference. » Messrs. A. Higgs and B. Bullott were admitted as members of the association, subject to the usual examination. Votes of thanks to the retiring officers, the Taranaki Rugby Union, Mr. A. R. Standish for his services as auditor, and to the Press concluded the meeting. NOTES. Speaking at the meeting of the "Stars" last night, Mr. A. L. Humphries, who can be looked on as a bit of an authority on the club's affairs, attributed the success of the club to the work of the secretary, who, he said, had educated the players up to the feeling that ii they were going to have sport they must be prepared to pay for it. "In the old days," he added, taking the 'members into his confidence, "a man had only to be a good player, and he paid for nothing. He made the club pay it."
