HEWITT'S PICTURES. * SPECIAL PROGRAMME FOR FRIDAY There was again a very iair audience at the Theatre Royal last night, when the .present series of beautiful pictures were shov/n for the last time. Interest centred in the appearance of Mr. Len. Russell, a local vocalist who was announced to make his initial appearance before the footlights. To say that he at once disarmed scepticism regarding the quality of his voice is but mildly stating a fact, and Mr. Russell is to e M congratulated on bis highly successful debut. He is the possessor or a rich baritone voice, whici he Jzes most pleasingly. . Though somewhat nervous last night, as was to be expected 1 ., he received >\ most cordial and appreciative hearing, and his future appearances will be looked forward to.

A complete -change of programme' is promised for Friday night, when' a speeially-selected lot of views will' ik submitted. The management announces that owing to the success of the innovation of varying the programme by the inclusion of vocal items, they have decided to extend it. 'On Friday Mr.. Russell will accordingly make his second appearance, and the management lias* also been fortunate in securing Mr. Michael Lewis, the well-known Auckland amateur, who has kindly consented to give one 01 his characteristic recitals. Mr. Lewis is' at present in New Plymouth on a business trip representing Messrs. P. Hayman and Co., and, as usual, will donate his fee, carrying Government subsidy, to the local hospital.

GRAND IRISH CONCERT TO-NIGHT. The New Plymouth public are reminded that the grand Irish concert and dance to celebrate St. Patrick's/ Day will take place this evening. The programme is a long and varied one. comprising orchestral selections by the New Plymouth Orchestral Union, mandolin, guitar and banjo selections, popular Irish songs by well-known local »nd professional vocalists), attractive Irish dances. An interesting item will be a comic Bong by Mr Lewis, of Auckland. Mr Lewis .happens to be in town on this date, and hearing of his capabilities as a humorous entertainer, he was 1 at once prevailed upon and kindly consented to assist. Everything possible is being done to make the concert a distinct success. The lower part of the theatre has been especially prepared for the dancing, and Mrs Woods'' orchestra of violin, piano and cornet will provide the dance music.
