TO VISIT JAPAN. A WARM WELCOME PREDICTED. Received March 22, 4.25 p.m. New York, March 21. A cordial invitation to the United States battleship licet to visit any port in Japan on its homeward cruise was presented to the Hon. Elihu Root on J'hursdny and accepted yesterday. 'Urn licet will visit Yokohama. The Hon. Mr. 'l'al't, in an interviow, predicted a warm welcome which would isilrpnse pessimists. Tho Daily Mail says the meeting ot the Japanese and American fleets wiil be welcomed by all as a success to British diplomacy. The Daily News Baya the invitation and its pleasant and tactful acceptance are a happy omen for the future. The Chronicle's' Washington correspondent states that as Mr. Deakin's invitation had been accepted, Cabinet judged it was imperative that no difference should b« made in the ease of f Japan. The decision has been well reI ccived, and it is believed will lead to e the development of improved relations. The Express' New York correspondent i- says the fleet's visit to Japan has s stirred the. whole country, from Maine to California, and the Government has effectually silenced th e jingoes. According to naval experts, the fleet d is in a better condition than at the o start. Tho voyage round the Horn demonstrated the fleet's thorough aea* worthiness.
