ALLEGED ASSAULT.
A CONSTABLE IX ElilfOli. I'KR I'BESS ASSOCIATION. Bi.exukim, January 17. - In the Magistrate's Court to-day. a young man John Foley was proceeded against by a police constable 011 a charge of assault, alleged to have been committed 011 the occasion of the open-air address delivered in Blenheim on a recent evening by John Meikle. Foley complained that while standing in a crowd of.listeners the constable caught hold of him, and pulled him some distance without reason. The Constable gave evidence to the effect that feeling rail high in the crowd, which numbered about 400. Two young men started bickering, and Foley was apparently going to take lake part in the row when witness stopped him, The Magistrate said the information was ill-advised and dismissed if, allowing defendant £1 His costs.
