ALLEGED SHEEP STEALING.
——-♦- The inevitable sequel to the Fitzroy excitement was enacted at the I'olice Court on Tuesday, when a young man named Frank Smith was chargid with the theft, on January ■ r /th, of 40 sheep, value £42, the property of George Riddell, of Waiwakaiho. It will be remembered the police had been led a merry ch a se ly the accused, who was first arrested on Satuixlay night, but afterwards made good his escaiie. Smith', after many exciting experiences both by himself and his pursuers, surrendered himself on Monday evening, in accordance, it is averml, with a statement lie made previously. Sergeant Iladdrell asked for a remand till Wednesday week, tho accused offering no objection. Bail was asked for, the police making some demur. The S.M. however granted the application, in accused's own recognisance of £IOO, and two sureties of £SO each.
