TUESDAY, JULY 5, 1904. The Hon. the Speaker took the cliuir at 10.lit) a.m. FIHST READINU. The Savings Bank Profits Act Amendment Hill (Bauuie) was introduced and ;-ead a tkst time. DEATH OF MH O'MEARA. Mr SKDDON (Premier,) referred to tilie death ol Mr O'Meara. He briefly traced his career from the time he joined the Post and Telegraph Department to the time of his death. His, he said, had been a useful life, and for some years ho was an energetic, faithful and genial member of the House, ami the Government owed a great (leal to his tact and energy and tltu faithful performance of iiu duties as a Government Whip. Hi had so performed these duties as U, command Uie esteem and respect oi both slides of the House. Ho (Mi Soddoiu) felt he had lost a kindl> and good friend, and he fell sure he was voicing the opinions of all in oxtending to the widow and familj their deepest sympathy. He moved a resolution expressing the regret oi the House at Mr O'Meara's death and of appreciation of his services, and sympathy with the widow ami family.
Mr MA3SEY (Leader of the Opposition), in seconding the motion, said never had more genuine sorrow been felt in Parliament 'L|jildings than wheal the news was circulated of Mr O'Meara's sudden death. He possessed qualifications which eminently fitted him lor ,the position of Whip, and he had made many fast friends on the Opposition side'of the House, who trusted and respected him. He would be remembered as u Btraigiht-goin£, fair-minded politician.
The motion was agreed to, and, as a mark of respect, the House at 10. 55 adjourned till 10.80 a.m. to-mor-row.
