VOLUNTEER NEWS.

MORRIB TUBE PRA.OTIOB. Wrrn a viev to furthering efficiency <n shooting, a joint committee of the Taranaki Kifles and Guards has arranged the details connected with the prtctical use of the recently imported Morris tubes. The firing will take place at the Drill Hall, and the target selected is that which is aimed at from 15 yards. Only one target will ba erected at first, but others will be erected as required. Ammunition will be supplied at sixpence per dozen rounds—a pi ice that will cover the piime cost and also the expense of the tirget flips. The annual subscription was fixed at a shilling per member, honorary members free. It is expected that the target will be ready." within a fortnight. Sergeant Smith has been appointed secretary. Thos6 who have seen these tubes put to a practical test are immensely pleased with the successful results obtained, and it is certain that they will prove here as they ilave done elsewhere a most valuable means of training voluntesrs in accurate shooting. To be able in the confined space of a room to have all the advantages of a rifle range is no small boon, and this is now within the reach of the local volunteers. Although the 15 yards target has been selected for preliminary work, there is no reason why occasionally the 10 yards mark should not be used. The latter demands exceptional stfadinßß3 of hand and eye, the point aimed at being so small that given the slightest hand tremor and the bullet is off the target, but anyone who can get a i-uccfssion of bull's eyes may count himself a first class shot. The same sighting is uaed as at an ordinary target yet from the same spot one can fire at the 200 or any other rawge up to 1100 yards. Such an invaluableaid to marksmaiiship should bt taken up with enthusiasm, especially by the younger volunteers.
