SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
The Board met on Friday. Present: Messrs Cock (chairman), Wade, Allsworth, and Faull, also by invitation Mr J. McKenzie, the newly-appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands. A special resolution with reference to the deviation of the Beaconsfieldroad was confirmed. Mr Slraucbon wrote a farewell letter which was acknowledged. Ma T. Millt>, Smart-road, wrote that be could not get the Road Board to do any work on the reserve leased by him. —The Commissioners decided that the matter had nothing to do with them. Messrs Fookes and Company wrote with reference to Mr T, Mills' lease.— The Board after reading the Ranger's report decided that the blackberries must be subdued at once, and on condition this is attended to the Commissioners will accede to the request for delay in respect to the section, The Department of Education wrote that the Minister was of opinion that the rights through reserves in connection with their water supply which are sought by the Stratford Borough Council could not be conferred without legislative authority.- The Chairman intimated that he had sent this opinion on to to the Stratford Council. The Secretary reported a visit from the land purchase officer of the Publio Works Department, who was adjusting the prices to be paid for lands taken in connection with improvements on the New Plymouth line of railway.—lt was decided that the Railway Department be informed that the Commissioners will not demand any compensation for the part of section 19, New Plymouth, taken by proclamation if the costs, etc,, ; re title be paid. ' The Secretary submitted correspondence with Mr W. A. Quinc, of Hawer*, which concluded a misunderstanding ' in a manner satisfactory to all con. cerned,
Correspondence with Messrs Twigg and Company, and T. Meredith Smith was read. The Ranger's report on a number of properties was read. It was decided to notify the lessees to cut all blackberries within one month from date. The Treasurer's Bank balance was stated at £BOS 6s lid. The Treasurer brought up the question of the land fund, and a resolution was passed with reference to the fixed deposit of £237 3s 7d at the Bank of New Zealand. The members of the Board decided to visit the Waiwakaiho reserves and li»ke TJmutekai on the afternoon of next meetirjg day. Transfers agreed to on usual condi tions: —C Waller to Mrs K. Gray, lease of parts K and O town belt. On the usual conditions the Board agreed to a grant of timber rights from H. Furniss to H. Brown and Company, over part section 39, block 2, Ngaire. Consent was given to two mortgages, Accounts amounting to £6B 93 7d were passed for payment. The Board rose.
