OFFENSIVE PUBLICATIONS.

ts& PRESS ASSOCIATION. , Dt/Nlinm, November 13. I In Banco, the police appealed agaicst the decision of Mr Grabam In aeijuitting William Hammond Covell, who had bean charged in the Court below with a braaoh of the Offensive Publications Act.

The ground of the appeal was that the Magisti ate, had no need to decide whether the publication in question was fiffen-uve, .section 5 of the Act giving .the Legislature's definition. Mr 0. apinan, for the respondent, contended tint the work was purely a medical one, and that if the police were right it would be an offence for one medical man to show it to another medical man.

The Judge decided t) at th» Legisl ture was aiming not at the class of books referred to, but to advertisements and other matter of that character, and dismissed the appeal.
