MURDER OF MISSIONARIES
! BLOODTHIRSTY MEW GUINEA NATIVES. A NATIVE SCHOOL DESTROYED. [PEB PBESB ASSOCIATION.] Received 22, 12 55am. Thuhsdat Island, April 21. A Government resident bas recaived a, letter from New Guinea, stating that the crew of the schooner Dido report, the murder by New Guinea natives of the well known missionary Rev. Jas. Chalmers and the Rev. 0. F. Tomkin, another missionary recently arrived from England at Deb, at the mouth ©f th« Fly river.
The missiona! ios went ashore aftsr being warned that a fight was progressing.
The natives killed Chalmers and Tcmkins and then all the boys belonging to the ; r miigion school at Dob. The captain of the mission schooner Nine, from the vessel saw the bodies lying on the beach with their heads cut oft', hut ho dared not land. He s«iled for Dara Island from where news, forwarded by the native misjioDary, confirms the murders from another source,
