EDUCATION BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of tbe Education Board was held on Wednesday. Present, : Mr. McAllum (Chairman), Mips Heywood, Messrs. Hignett, Faull, Kennsdy, Mackay, Allsworrtb, Wade, and Adlam. The Architect's report was read, Plans had bean prepared and tenders called- for the erection of a school at Pohokura. Thfe Chairman had sccspted the tender of Mr. Blanchard for the of a chimney at the Stratford residence; this, with carpentering and plumbing work, would make the cos,t of repairs £l7 10s. Consideration of the .tenders for Pohokura was deferred, and the Ohairmun's action in regard to the work at Stratford residence was confirmed. The Wellington Education Board wrote asking that copies of local newspapers containing reports on educational matters might be exchanged.—Agreed to. A copy of the scale of salaries formulated by th,e Nelson Education Board was received.' D'. work, and deilt with some complaints made by the town school committee as to the method of examination. The report was adopted, and a copy is to be forwarded to the town committee, with an expression of perfect confidence in the sewing committee as at pr*sent constituted. Messrs. McAHum,Hignettand Allsworth were appointed a committee to consider letters from tho inspector and Dr. McArthur re outside examiners.

Mrs. Winfiald was appointed temporary sewing teacher at Frankley Road, as from Ist April. Mr. Hignott brought up a motion of which he had given notice at last meeting, that negotiations be entered into wich the New Plymouth Harbour Board with a view of securing a piece of land on the Mt. Elliot Reserve for the erection of permanent education offices. Mr. Hignett thought it was time tho Board looked for a permanent office site, and thought it might be possible to arrange to co-operate with tho Harbour Board in building, Mr. Allsworth seconded, and in doing so pointed out that it would ho a bettur plan to arrange, if possible, for tho exchange of a piece of ore of the BoardY reserves for a suitable oflico site. On the motion of Mr. Maekay, it was decided that the secretary prepare, before next meeting, a statement of the items of expenditure by the Board during the past year under the heading of " improvements to buildings." Accounts amounting to .£330 Is lid were passed for paymeut, and the Board adjourned.
