Note—The •• il" Manure gave the best results in proportion to cost out of 19 experiments with Champion Swede Turnips at the Government Experimental Farm at Momohaki in 1897 (see page 170, Fifth Rennrt of Agricultural Department) : Tie experiments made at Momohaki with various Manures upon Turnips in the Season 1898-99 show that vhe bcst result was obtained from a mixture of one-third steamed bone dut<i and two-thirds basio slag (Thomas' Phosphate), whilst the best mult, at a minimum cosv, was from a fftxture of one-third Lawes' Superphosphate and two-thirds of the VV.M F Co's "M ' Manure. The latter mixture contains the same components as the V7.M £. Co. s No. 3 Mixture, the proportions aeing a little different. The former combination point* o ike fact, now generally recognised, that the value of bane slag, also known as Thomas' Phosphate, has been greatly under-estimated. The W.M.E. e.'s No. 4 Mixture contains one-third of Thomas' Phosphate. A perusal of the report of Mr. Gillanders, the manager at Momohaki, embodying the results of the experiments reforred to, which will be found in tho Seventh Report of the Department of Agriculture, wonld amply repay any farmer who finds a difficulty in •el»cting 4 ihe most suitable manures.
