LICENSING COMMITTEE.
'Mb. H. L. Stanfobd, S.M, acting as the Licensing Committee for the district, held the quarterly meeting on Friday. A trans r er of the license of the Criterion Hotel from T. Haywood to J. Taylor was granted. , Mr. Stanford intimated that it was necessary, owing to the growth of the district, that additional accommodation should be provided at the ftahotul Hotel.
Mr. Samuel, on behalf of the licensee, Mr. Hawkins, stated that his client was anxious to have the enlargement made, but that inconsequence of his inability to get She necessary timber ho had been unable to put the work in hand, but it would be carried out as'soon as possible. His Worship also drew attention to the necessity of making provision for escape in case of fire and intimated that all the hotels in the district would have to be provided with balconies and steps. He mentioned that the licensee of the Opunake Hotel was already attending to this matter and that the same provision should be made at Eahotu, With regard to the hotels in New Plymouth there was only one, the White Hart, which had failed to meet this requirement and he expected it to be carried out at that hotel also.
