LICENSING COMMITTEE.

'Mb. H. L. Stanfobd, S.M, acting as the Licensing Committee for the district, held the quarterly meeting on Friday. A trans r er of the license of the Criterion Hotel from T. Haywood to J. His Worship also drew attention to the necessity of making provision for escape in case of fire and intimated that all the hotels in the district would have to be provided with balconies and steps. He mentioned that the licensee of the Opunake Hotel was already attending to this matter and that the same provision should be made at Eahotu, With regard to the hotels in New Plymouth there was only one, the White Hart, which had failed to meet this requirement and he expected it to be carried out at that hotel also.
