Watson Kennedy, who was informally sentenced to three years' imprisonment in the Magistrate's Court recently for uttering valueless cheques, was brought before Mr. Martin to-day for sentence. Accused, who is very deaf, handed in a long written sta"ornent, in the course of which he stat *1 Ihe had voluntarily ami deliberately committed the crime for the express 'purpose of getting the-shelter of Hoi' Majesty's gaols, a.s an afllic.ion o; ihu throat and ears precluded the possibility of his e ivning an hoaest livoli hood. Kennedy has several previous convictions. Mr. Martin rain mded him (or a week so that enquiries a'lout lain may be made.
