CRICKET.
OAIIRINGTON ROAD v NEW PLYMOUTH 1. The first cup match of the season which proved a very interesting and exciting contest was played by tbe above teams on Thursday afternoon on the Carrington Road ground. For the visitors Lash, who only gave one chance, made a splendid innings of 51 not out —the total score being 119. This set the home team rather n formidable task but ,thoy responded well, reaching 04. Jordan and Skelton made things particularly lively for New Plymouth, Skelton contributing 38, not out, and making a record hit of 101 yards, clean over the bowler's head, for which he was loudly cheered. Teams so evenly matched afforded great plasure to the spectators who appreciated the excellent form displayed. Tbe return match will be looked forward to with keen interest. The afternoon tea dispensed by the hospitable ladies of the neighbourhood was much enjoyed and proved very refreshing to; the teams after their hard toil.
