DEATH OF MRS. BOSWORTH.
Br the death of Mrs. Eliza Bosworth, which occurred at Te Henui early on Monday morning, at the age of 71, there has passed away an old and most highly esteemed resident of the district. As the wife of Mr. W. H. Bosworth, with whom she came to the colony about forty years back, the deceased lady went through many of the troubles which attended early settlement in Taranaki. Her husband was Sergeant of the 57th Regiment, and ProvostMarshal until appointed Governor of New Plymouth Gaol. It was, however, in Sunday School work that the late Mrs. Bosworth found the best scope for her kindly nature, and for close upon thirty years she devoted herself to this labour of love, first at St. Mary's and afterwards at Te Henui, only quitting the work most regretfully when enfeebled health compelled abstention from it. For 20 years did St. Mary's Sunday School have tho benefit of her invaluable assistance, and on the sth May, 1897, a presentation was made to her as a memento of the good work she had done, and a token of the esteem in which she was held. It is satisfactory to note that the occasion of her retirement is thus recorded in the annual report of St. Mary's Parish for the year ending June 1899. "During the year Mrs. Bosworth has retired from active service in the School after 30 year's constant work as teacher in St. Mary's and Superintendent at Fitzroy. It is I exceedingly hard to part with such an old and trusted fellow worker,, but in the case of Mrs Bosworth w,e, one and all, felt that after such long and zealous work it would not be just to press her to remain, and s>, as Mrs, Bosworth has dropped out of harneis, her daughter bas taken up the work and in Mif-s Bosworth we have an able successor to her mother." There is no doubt that it would havo been prudent had Mrs. Bosworth given up this work earlier, as often it was a severe tax on her energies, but from tho children's point of view, it was a decided advantage to the benefit of her ripe exp3rioace and the kindly manners by which she endeared herself to more than one generation. At Ballina, Co. Mayo, Ireland, where Mrs Bosworth was born, her brother, Mr. Burnes, is proprietor and editor of the leading journal. There are-four children left to mourn the loss of a loving mother, viz., Mrs, Doskrill (the wife of His Worship the Mayor), Miss Bosworth (whose devoted attention during the painful illness which has just terminated was a great I solace to the sufferer), one son in the Bank of New Zealand at Ohristchuroh and another in the police force at Port Chalmers. To all the bereaved relatives we tender our deepest sympathy. The record of such a good, useful life is an honour to the deceased, and should long be held iu revered memory by all those amongst whom it was passed. The funeral is to take place on Wednesday.
