THE BIOGRAPH.
WITH THE TROOPS IN SOUTH AI'IUOA. At tho Theatre Royal on Friday evening next, for three nights only, and special matinee on Saturday afternoon next, an exhibition of pictures taken by the well-known British Biograph Company will be opened for a season. Messrs. Wylde and Freedinan, having become proprietors of the Australian rights, will present their first selection to a New Plymouth audience on Friday with the tamo clearness and completeness as made the entertainment such a triumph in London. The pictures are taken at the rate of 50 per second, and are reproduced on the screen at the 1 same rate. Each picture is 26 ftet square, and there are about 40 of them in the opening collection, the films of which roll out to nearly seven miles. As samples of the subjects dealt with, it may be mentioned :—ln the trenches J at Rifle Hill, showing a signaller sending the following the following message from Lord Kitchener —" Have your picket under arms, and send out patrol —Kitchener." The interpretation of the signals is easily discerns ble on the screen to anyone possessing a knowledge of telegraphy. Lord Dundourld's cavalry going into action near Spion Kop ; six brigades striking tents to advauce i,u Spion Kop; Indian beaiew and ambulance bearers bringing in the wounded after the battle at Spiou Kop; 12-pounder and 4.7 lyddite guna from H.M.S. Terrible bombarding Goknso, a'so showing Captain Percy Scott's ingenijus gun carriage ; Frere and Chievely camps; l'Yei e bridge being rebuilt i'V the Royal Engineers after destruction by the .Boera; the New South Wales lancers lauding at Capetown ; and rnauy others equally interesting from the front. Incidental to the war will be shown the : fji'ieen's vHt to Lsndon in commemora- i fcion of the relief of Ladysmith ; Her i Majesty reviewing her own bodyguard pricr to their departure for the front, a'.d the Prince of Wales inspecting ; Fagot's Horse on the morning of their departure. An interesting picture will ; also be presented of the Albatross, the 1 fastest torpedo destroyer in the world, j steaming 82 knots in her trial trip over | the measured mile.
