A PECULIAR ENQUIRY.

An unusual course was adopted at t the adjourned inquest touching the death of Thomas Telfer Fogo, whose wife is in custody on a charge of haying murdered him, Mr. Thornton, who appeared for Mrs. Fogo, applied to have the enquiry conducted in private; that is, that the public and even the press be excluded. ■* The grounds were that the holdißg it in private would be in the interests of justice and also in the interests ef the family. He quoted authorities onjfhe subject. In her own interest he 4ad advised £is client not to give evidence , at present, as he did not think she could stand the strain, and if the evidence given were published the public would only have a one-sided view, and was from the public the jury would afterwards be taken. Mr. J. F. Fraser, for the Grown, said, it was a matter for the discretion ef the Grown, he could not see that it prejudiced justice one way or the other, * -wd he would leave the matter in the pF hands of the Ooroner, Mr. 0. 0, Graham. The Ooroner said Counsel had put it strongly that it would be in the interests of justice to exclude the public and the press. He could not see how it would do any harm, and he would * accede to counsel's application and clear the Gourt of all but the parties eon- < .oerned. The press and the public then retired. THE VBRDIOT. Lateb. At the inquest touching the death of T. T. Fogo, the jury returned the following verdict:—"The jury find that the cause of death was from having been stabbed by his wife, Sarah Fogo, but under what circumstances there is not sufficient evidence to show,"
