THE ROYAL VISIT.

The news published in our cables yesterday morning of the intention of the Duke and Duchess of York to visit the Australasian colonies will, undoubtedly give unqualified pleasure to many of Her Majesty's subjects in, these colonies. That New Zealand is to be included in the Royal tour is, we consider beyond a doubt, because the primary object of the tour is to enable the Queen to recognise the loyalty of the colonies in so freely offering troops for service in South Africa, and her admiration of the gallantry of the colonial troops in the field. Under these circumstances, considering the very great praise bestowed on the New Zealand troops, to leave this colony out of the tour would be a mistake not likely to be mtide by the present British Cabinet, and defeat one of the objects of the tour, i.e, to promote the union of the Empire. That the visit should be timed, and the Duke of York commissioned to open the Federal Parliament, is in accordance with the fitness of things, although, such a course would not have been adopted (any more than it was in the case of Canada), but for the services rendered by the troops from these colonies in South Africa, Whatever the moving cause of the visit, the Heir apparent to the Throne, now so long and so worthily filled by Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen, will receive a reception of unexampled heartiness, and the visit will, no doubt, help very materially in that process of wielding together of the scattered parts of the Empire into j a great and glorious and united nation, 1
