i,- THE OTAGO-TARANAKI MATCH. CCjflfoteam arrived inNewPlyth on Tuesdaj morning and, as the weather "was too rough for outdoor practice, the members exercised their mugoles in the Drill Hall in the after- ' noon, and will doubtless be able to give a good account of themselves at Pitztoy thia (Wednesday) afternoon. The following teim, which repre- ~" tented Otago against Auckland last will, with a few alterations, represent that province to-day.—Otago (bine): Fall-back, Adams; threequarters, McKenzie (left wing), Booth, Stephenson; half-backs, Duncan (captain), Armstrong, Wallace; forwards, Monro, Spiers (front row), Mitchell, >_. Murphy, Cross, Porteous, Burt, and "McKewen. .The Taranaki team will probably consist of:—Full, O. Young; three- ' quarter?, A. Hunter, My not t, Nicholas; : - five-eighth, J. Hunter; half, A. Humphries; wings, Tate, Hamblyn; for- , wards, Phillips, Bendall, Bayly, McGovern, Duffin, Essen, and Greig. Emergencies: Back, Mclntyre. In the event of A. Humphries not \ accepting his chosen position in the team, J. Hunter will play half-back, and Mclntyre will go three quarter, * and Mynott five-eighths. Mr. R. G. Tatton, Secretary of the Taranaki Union, arrived in New Plymouth on-Tuesday. In the course of a conversation at the News Office, Mr. Tatton explained the position of the Union as regards playing the OtagoToranaki match at Fitzi oy instead of in the Recreation Grounds. He said the whole financial position of the Union (wi.ich is a bad one), was explained to the Recreation Grounds Board, who were asked to make their conditions as reasonable as possible, but in reply, demanded 25 per cent, of the gross takings, which absolutely precluded the match being played there. Bence the acceptance of the offer of -the grounds at Fitzroy. Mr. Tatton ' wishes this fact to be placed on record, because the public have been blaming the Union for fixing the match at Fitzroy. Three or four of the Otago players were" disabled in the match against Auckland on Saturday. w The rep. match between Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay Provinces was p'ayed atGisborne on Saturday last, resulting ' in a win forHawke's Bay by 13 points to 3. The home team held a lead of three points within eight minutes of time, when they went to pieces, and Hawke's Bay rattled up three tries, two of which were converted. At Wellington on Saturday, Wanganui beat Christ College (Christchurch) by 8 points to 3.
