THE SHOOTING CASE AT MONGONUI.

PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, August 24. The following are particulars of the shooting case near Mongonui. Rodgers and Gardiner were neighbours, and there had been a long-standing grievance between them. Rodgers was recently fined for using insulting language towards Gardiner. According to the latter's statement, Rodgers, crying, " Now, you ——, I've got you," pointed a gun and fired point-blank at him. The first shot missed his head ; the second struck him behind the shoulder, Gardiner whipped up his horses, and ltodgers rau after him, loading his gun as he ran, and fired two more shots. Neither took effect. Gardiner reached Hazard's place fainting. Hazard rode to Rodgers' farm and found he had taken poison. He administered a strong emetic, which had the desired effect, but accused is still very weak.
