BELL BLOCK.

(FROM OUK OWN COKRESrONDENT.) Since my last there has been a wedding in the Block, Mr. I<\ Hosking and Miss King being the parties. As the wedding party were enjoying the good things provided, the advance of our army of larrikins was heralded by the usual horrible din. This roused the British lion and a battle was the consequence, but one angry Briton with one discharge of the family blunderbuss put the whole crowd to flight and the arms of the fugitives were strewn along the line of retreat — such a collection of tin-cans etc. The Ball took place on. Tuesday and : everything was very satisfactory, ex- ; cept the attendance, which fell much below expectation, consequently the , Hall funds will not receive much benefit. 1 The first Band of Hope meeting took place last week, when the attendance was very encouraging. A good programme was gone through with pleasure to the youngsters. The Church of England people held their annual meeting in the church on Wednesday evening, after which an adjournment was made to the Hall where several stirring addresses were given by the Vicar, Rev. ¥. Bennett, Capt. Cornwall, and Messrs. dkinner, and J. T. Bennett. In the intervals songs were given by Messrs. Cowie and Bennett, and duets one by Mrs. and Miss Hoby, and the other by Mrs. and Miss Rundle, which were all much appreciated. It was determined to enlarge the church in such a way that the addition would become part of a new church as the old one is getting past repair. The plans were shown and it was stated that Mr. Sanderson had offered not only to give the p'ans free, but to supervise the work gratis ; the announcement was received with hearty applause.
