* NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION. i [PUB PBKBB ASSOCIATION.] i Received 14, 9.25 a.m. i Sydney, June 14. i At the conclusion of his speech the i Hon. G. H. Reid moved the addition , of the following paragraph to the , Address, "It is subject for regret that Ministers .persisted in employing ; Mr. Yarwood as a member of the Finance Commission when they became ; aware that he previously published ! strong opinions upon one of the issues : he was asked to try. We respectfully agreo with your Excellency in the opinion that recent events have shown the necessity of putting the volunteerforces upon a better footing, and therefore we especially regret that recent appointments to positions in the volunteer forces seem to subordinate efficiency, merit, and patriotic service to other considerations, a course calling for strong disapproval." On the motion of Sir W. J. Lyne, Premier, the debate was adjourned till to-day. (Received 14, 9.35 a.m.) Sydney, June 14. Mr. Reid spoke for over four hours and dealt at length with the Finance Committee. He claimed that an injustice had been done him by thappointment of one member who found him guilty before he commenced the enquiry. The Government set the Committee foity-one questions and tried many ways to get answers which would be the leverse of truth. Tie defended the cash system, and claimed a surplus of .£141,000 during its operation. H e condemned the promotions of certain volunteer officers, including the Minister of Justice, and referred to the plague suppression expenditure as thft most awful record of incompetence and extravagance the world had ever seen. Eeceived 14,11.30 p.m. Sydney, June 14. In. the Assembly, Mr. Rsid gave notice of motion for Tuesday, censuring the Government for its alleged mismanagement in connection wi'h the outbreak of plague, and said the lack of system in dealing with the matter that led to gross waste of public money. Sir W. J. Lyne, Premier, resumed the debate on the Address-in-Repty, and is replying to Mr. Reid. (Kecoived 15, 1.30 a.m ) Sydnky, J (in<! 14. I In the Assembly, Sir W. J. Lyne said Parliament was going to do its work, or the Government would not remain on the Treasury beiiol.es. He traversed Mr. Reid's ci-iti isms, and said that the other colonies having appointed delegates no other course was open but to send Mi'. Barton. He defended the Government's action in regard to the plague, the despatoh of troops to South Africa, volunteer promotion, and the appointment of a finance committee and its findings.
