SUGGESTIONS BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, May 25. The Council of the Chamber of Commerce has written to the Defence Department urging that with a view to the proper defence of the Colonies proper facilities be extended to existing forces to mako themselves efficient soldiers ; and further, with a v.ew also to raising a race c pable of bearing aims and defending the Colony in time of war, it is hoped that drill iu all our national schools will be systematically taught by competent instructors, and that volunteers first, and then, if circumstances justify it, rifle clubs (the latter in sparsely populated districts) will receive the greatest encouvagement and assistance from the Government.
