EGMONT LODGE SOCIAL.

The annual social of the Egmont Lodge of the 1.0.0. F. was held at the Foresters' Hall on Thursday evening. A special feature of the gathering was the intention of devoting the proceeds to the needs of a distressed brother, and in furtherance of this object the Lodge was most materially assisted by Mr. Garry and his orchestra, who kindly gave their services for the occasion. Whether the large attendance was owing to the popularity of the brethren, the excellence of the dance music, the energy of the Committees, or the beneficent object in view, or to all these icircumstances combined, it is hard to] say, but certainly it exceeded all expectation. Notwithstanding the discomfort attached to dancing in an overcrowded room, all present seemed to thoroughly enjoy the entertainment. No pains had been spared by the members of the Committee to ensure that all the details which make or war a rdunion of this kind should be as near perfect as possible, and the ladies' committee, consisting of Mesdames W. Bennett, Ains worth, McGahey, Parker, and Misses Bennett and Ainsworth, must be congratulated on the excellent supper which they had collected for the delectation of the guests. Messrs. Ainsworth, McGahey, R. J. Carter, H. H. Ford, W. Oliver, H. Inch, and J. Bennett {(secretary) also did excellent service to ensure the success of the social, During the evening several capital vocal items weru rendered by Miss Ainswortb, Messrs. L, H. Cock, Ainsworth, and W. Giay. It is particularly pleasing to record that the financial result is likely to be very satisfactory, so that ail who took part in the gathering will have the satisfaction of feeling that while enjoying themselves they have helped a brother in need.
