TRADES CONFERENCE.

[PBB PBBSS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, April 19. At the Trades Conference this morning a deputation was appointed to wait on Messrs. Tregear and Mackay, of the Labour Department, re an amendment of the Conciliation and Arbitration Act, A resolution was carried urging the Government to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the working of mines and to grant labour organisations direct labour representation on all Labour Boards. Later. The Trades and Labour Conference will endeavour to bring about a better understanding between labour organisations in Wellington. The Conference agreed to urge that the Electoral Act! be amended in the direction of giving I equal representation, according to population, to towns and country. The Government are to be asked to reintroduce the Restriction of Usury Bill. It was resolved that it be a recommendation to the Government to introduce the Department of Labour Bill, providing for compulsory provision of labour statistics to the Department by j employers.
