THE SPREAD OF THE DISEASE. CENSURE ON THE AUTHORITIES. (Received 28,11.30 p.m.) Sydney, March 28. There are thirty-ene patients in quarantine. Two are merely suspects, three convalescents, 14 are progressing favorably, six are very ill, and of the remainder there are no reports. A deputation of members of Parliament waited on the Premier to secure an amendment of the City Council's Act. The Sydney Council was charged with grave criminal neglect, which imperilled the safety of the metropolis, and proved utterly useless during the crisis. The speakers urged the extension of the franchise, so as to give the people a voice in the Council. Mr. Lyne replied that he would do his best to push on the Greater Sydney scheme. If he could not get this early he would take steps to secure a reform of the Council. DEATH OF ANOTHER PATIENT. (Received 28,11.40 p.m.) Sydney, March 28. Bennett is dead. A man named Crane has been seized with the plague at Darlington. He worked in the infected area. PRECAUTIONS IN NEW ZEALAND. Wellington, March 28. The Sanitary Inspector has been prosecuting enquiries throughout the city, and as a result several Chinamen have been fined for permitting decaying vegetable matter to remain on their premises.
