Richard Swain, wharf laborer, had bis left forearm broken and partly stripped of flesh through a quarter of beef falling from the slings wnen being shipped aboard the Delphic. Ernest Mander sustained a slight concussion of the spine through falling while attempting to alight from a tramcar in motion. Auckland, January 4. With reference to the boat reported to have disappeared yesterday, it was trying to get back to land when it capsized. The occupants reached the shore safely. 1 James Craig, a middle-aged man, was killed at Hellaby's slaughter-house, Richmond. He was building a drive at the bottom of a well 100 feet deep in oi der to increase the water supply. A bucket of earth was hoisted and emptied, and the man at the windlass, thinking the bucket had been replaced on the hook, swung it in. Through some cause, thd bucket came off the hook and fell on Craig's head, fracturing his skull. He was token to the hospital, and died in ton minutes after admission. Deceased was over 50 years of age, and leaves a wife and family.
