At to-day’s meeting the clerk, Mr. C. J. Campbell, advised that work under the government scheme ceased cn MUrch 12. Out of £BOO made available, £749 19s 3d had been .sp*en(. 'A 'total of .717 man days had 'been worked and the total mixture of lime and sodium chlorate used was 105 tons 12 erwt. It was estimated that] an aria of 1620 acres had been cleared. Mr. F. W. Sutton of the Department of Agriculture had, made an inspection visit and had expressed himself as well satisfied with the way in v.hic.h the work had been done in the county. Councillor J. C. Best said that ii the men- could be made available U the pulblic a lot more ragwort would be cleared and it would 'be a big help to the country generally. Mr. Campbell said that in one or two cases men had been put on private property and the owners had paid for the work. , It w'.as suggested that the men should *be made available not later than October 1.
