WATERSIDERS’ PICNIC. Ths combined picnic ot U ,e New Plymouth and Patea watersiders was held at King Edward Park to-day. A special train consisting ot 13 carriages and two vans brought over 600 from New Plymouth, and lOO came from Patea. FARM LABOUR. “To attempt to force men to work on farms would be entirely unjust and vicious in principle. We don’t want to conscript labour,” said Mr. J. 11. Furness, of Huntly, in an address to farmers at the Tow’n Hall to-day on the subject of a compensating price. POWER SUPPLY FAILS. Early last evening the electric power failed and interruptions continued for some time, permanent restoration being completed after midnight. The electrical inspector, Mr. A. E. Pollock, states that a fault developed during work undertaken by the Power Board. It was unforeseen and was unavoidable, he said, H. Milner, of the Stratford Post Office staff, has been transferred to Kaikohe, and will leave Stratford next week.
